FACULTY ROLES & APPOINTMENT DESCRIPTIONS


1. Instructor / Lecturer

Primary Function:
Delivers academic instruction for assigned subjects in an online learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach assigned subjects using approved MBS curriculum
  • Conduct live or recorded lectures (Zoom / self-paced)
  • Provide biblically faithful, Christ-centered instruction
  • Prepare lesson materials, assessments, and discussion prompts
  • Evaluate student performance and submit grades on time
  • Maintain professional and ethical teaching standards

Reports to:
Department Head / Program Head


2. Course Facilitator

Primary Function:
Guides students through learning modules and supports engagement without primary authorship of content.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate student learning using existing course modules
  • Moderate discussions, forums, and online interactions
  • Clarify lessons, instructions, and assignments
  • Provide encouragement, accountability, and feedback
  • Assist students in completing course requirements
  • Coordinate with Instructor or Department Head when needed

Reports to:
Instructor or Department Head


3. Subject Teacher

Primary Function:
Teaches a specific subject area with responsibility for instruction and assessment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver subject-specific instruction aligned with MBS standards
  • Prepare or adapt lesson plans and teaching resources
  • Administer quizzes, exams, and assignments
  • Monitor student progress and provide academic feedback
  • Uphold doctrinal integrity and academic excellence

Department Head / Program Head


4. Department Head / Program Head

Primary Function:
Provides academic leadership for a specific department or program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee faculty within the assigned department
  • Ensure curriculum alignment, quality, and consistency
  • Assign teaching loads and monitor faculty performance
  • Review syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments
  • Serve as academic mentor to faculty members
  • Recommend curriculum improvements and faculty appointments

Dean / Academic Dean


5. Dean

Primary Function:
Provides overall academic oversight and leadership across departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Department Heads and academic programs
  • Ensure academic standards, integrity, and quality assurance
  • Develop and approve academic policies and curriculum frameworks
  • Lead faculty development and evaluation
  • Represent the academic division in institutional leadership
  • Ensure faithfulness to MBS mission, vision, and doctrinal position

President / Governing Body


6. Visiting / Adjunct Faculty

Primary Function:
Provides specialized instruction on a temporary or per-course basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach assigned subject(s) for a limited duration
  • Deliver expertise in a specific field or topic
  • Follow approved curriculum and teaching guidelines
  • Submit grades and required academic reports
  • Maintain professional and doctrinal standards during engagement

1. Full-Time Faculty

Description:
Engaged in regular teaching and academic responsibilities with a sustained workload.

Key Expectations:

  • Teach multiple subjects per term
  • Participate in curriculum development and faculty meetings
  • Provide student mentoring and academic support
  • Comply with all institutional academic policies

2. Part-Time Faculty

Description:
Engaged on a limited teaching load while maintaining other professional or ministry commitments.

Key Expectations:

  • Teach assigned subject(s) per term
  • Fulfill instructional and grading responsibilities
  • Coordinate availability with department leadership
  • Adhere to MBS academic standards

3. Adjunct Faculty

Description:
Contract-based faculty hired per subject or term.

Key Expectations:

  • Teach specific assigned course(s)
  • Follow provided syllabus and curriculum
  • Complete teaching and grading duties within agreed timelines
  • No administrative or long-term obligations unless specified

4. Visiting Faculty

Description:
Short-term faculty invited for special lectures, seminars, or courses.

Key Expectations:

  • Deliver assigned lectures or learning sessions
  • Provide expertise and enrichment to the academic community

Adjunct Faculty vs Visiting Faculty

🧑‍🏫 Adjunct Faculty

What it means:
An Adjunct Faculty member is a part-time, contractual teacher hired to teach one or more full subjects/courses, usually on a recurring or per-term basis.

Key Characteristics

  • Teaches a complete subject/course
  • May teach every term or repeatedly
  • Handles lectures, assignments, grading, and exams
  • Follows the approved syllabus
  • Considered faculty, but not full-time

Typical Use in MBS

  • Subject expert who teaches:
    • One subject per term
    • Several terms per year
  • May be promoted later to Part-Time or Full-Time Faculty

🎓 Visiting Faculty

What it means:
