PASTORAL THEOLOGY SYLLABUS

Course Title: Pastoral Theology
Course Duration: 4 consecutive Weeks
Delivery Mode: Online/Onsite/Blended Learning

Target Audience: Bible school students, seminarians, and active pastors

Course Description:
This course provides a theological, spiritual, and practical foundation for pastoral ministry in the 21st century. It integrates biblical principles, historical insights, and contemporary applications in shepherding, preaching, counseling, leadership, and church administration.

Course Objectives

Cognitive Objective (Knowledge-Based)

• We will Analyze the biblical, historical, and theological foundations of pastoral ministry. This analysis will focus on the roles of a shepherd, servant, and leader in the 21st-century church.

Affective Objective (Character Formation)

• We will Aspire to cultivate Christlike pastoral integrity. We focus on servant-hearted leadership. This approach builds an authentic pastoral presence that fosters trust and discipleship in a postmodern context.

Volitional Objective (Practical Application)

• We will Apply a holistic pastoral ministry plan. Implement preaching, shepherding, and counseling. Manage administration and engage the community in a culturally relevant manner.

ABOUT THE PROFESSOR

Course Outline

Module 1: The Biblical and Theological Foundations of Pastoral Ministry

Pastoral ministry is a sacred calling that requires deep biblical understanding, theological discernment, and a heart committed to Christlike service. A pastor is not only a preacher or administrator. A pastor is also a shepherd, a servant-leader, and a theologian. Each role carries unique responsibilities. As Paul David Tripp reminds us, “Pastoral ministry is not about skillful performance. It is about a life shaped by the gospel. This life is lived out in the daily realities of shepherding God’s people (Tripp, Dangerous Calling). This module will explore these foundational aspects of pastoral ministry. We will ground each aspect in Scripture. We will also rely on the wisdom of faithful teachers from the past and present. • Biblical Counseling and Soul Care
• Crisis Ministry: Hospital, Grief, and Trauma Counseling
• Developing a Discipleship and Mentorship Program
