OUR TRUE SERVICE TO GOD
📖 Ephesians 6:6-8
INTRODUCTION: RICO’S STORY
Rico was a man who always wanted a better life. He prayed for financial stability, good health, and a successful career. But every time he was asked to serve in the church, he would come up with an excuse.
One Sunday, after the sermon, the pastor approached him, “Brother, would you like to help in the children’s ministry?”
Rico quickly declined, “Pastor, that’s not my calling.”
Later, the youth leader asked him, “Brother, can you join us in the outreach?”
Again, he refused, “I don’t think I’m gifted for that.”
Finally, the church janitor asked, “Brother, can you help sweep the floor?”
Rico chuckled, “I feel like God is leading me elsewhere.”
Months passed, and instead of getting the blessed life he prayed for, his life became harder. His business was failing, he constantly felt exhausted, and he had no peace. One night, feeling hopeless, he opened his dusty Bible and came across Matthew 6:33—
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
At that moment, he realized the problem: he was asking for blessings without being willing to serve the One who gives them. Rico knelt and prayed, “Lord, forgive me. From now on, I will serve You wholeheartedly.”
What about us? Are we truly serving God with the right heart, or are we waiting for the “perfect” opportunity while ignoring the small ones? Let’s reflect on what true service to God means.
Good news, the bible already give us hints what true service means! The question is…
What does the bible tells us about serving God in a genuine manner?
LET ME SHARE THREE BIBLICAL TRUTHS ABOUT SERVING GOD:
I. WE SERVE GOD FOR A GREAT REASON (John 15:16)
We don’t serve God just for the sake of doing something. There is a divine purpose behind our service.
💡 “Lord, I want to serve You, but in my own way.”
God says: “No, I have chosen you to serve Me in My way.”
A. Scriptural Mandate (Matthew 28:18-20)
Serving is not optional; it is a command. Jesus told His disciples to “go and make disciples.” Service is part of the Great Commission.
B. Spiritual Manner (1 Peter 2:5)
We serve not with selfish motives but as spiritual sacrifices pleasing to God. Serving is worship.
C. Sacrificial Method (Galatians 2:20)
True service requires sacrifice. It means dying to our own desires and letting Christ live through us.
📌 Relatable Thought: “You want the crown, but are you willing to carry the cross?”
II. WE SERVE GOD WITH A GREAT RESPONSIBILITY
Serving God is not just a privilege; it comes with responsibility.
💡 “Lord, I want to serve, but I don’t think I’m ready.”
God says: “I don’t call the equipped—I equip the called.”
A. There is a Call (1 Corinthians 7:20)
Each of us has a unique calling. Whether big or small, every task matters to God.
B. There is a Cause (Matthew 5:16)
Why serve? So that others may see God’s light through us. Service is a testimony.
C. There is a Chasm (Romans 12:1-2)
There’s a big difference between serving the world and serving God. We must be transformed and set apart for His purpose.
📌 “You want God to bless your plans, but are you willing to follow His plans?”
III. WE SERVE GOD WITH GODLY REQUIREMENTS
How should we serve? With the right heart and attitude.
💡 “Lord, I am serving You, but why does it feel burdensome?”
God says: “Check your heart. Are you serving with humility, sincerity, and hope?”
A. Serve God with Humility (Acts 20:19)
Pride has no place in service. True servants follow Jesus’ example of humility.
B. Serve God from the Heart (Ephesians 6:6)
We don’t serve for human applause but to please God.
C. Serve God with Hope (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Our labor in the Lord is never in vain. We may not see immediate rewards, but God never forgets.
📌 “You’re waiting for recognition, but have you checked if God is already pleased?”
CONCLUSION: RICO’S TRANSFORMATION
The day Rico surrendered his service to God, everything changed. He started small—helping clean the church, assisting in the children’s ministry, and joining the outreach. At first, it felt uncomfortable, but soon, he realized the joy of serving with the right heart.
One day, as he was teaching a group of children, he looked around and smiled. This was the “big calling” he had been waiting for all along—it just didn’t look like what he expected.
From then on, blessings started to overflow in his life—not just material, but peace, joy, and fulfillment that he never had before.
📖 Luke 16:10 — “Whoever is faithful with little will also be faithful with much.”
📌 Final Hugot: “You’re waiting for the ‘big break,’ but maybe God is waiting for you to be faithful in the ‘small tasks.’”
So, are you willing to serve God wholeheartedly, even in small ways? Because in God’s kingdom, there is no such thing as a small act of service—only faithful hearts willing to obey. 💙
