Course Outline: Methods of Research

Course Duration: 5 Online Sessions (2 hours per session)
Format: 1.5 hours lecture + 30 minutes discussion/Q&A

Course Description:

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of research methodology, covering both qualitative and quantitative approaches, research design, data collection, analysis, and ethical considerations. It is designed to equip students with practical skills for conducting systematic research and applying research findings effectively.


Course Objectives:

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • Cognitive (Knowledge): Gain a clear understanding of research principles, methods, and processes.
  • Affective (Attitudes/Values): Appreciate the value and significance of research in academic and professional contexts.
  • Volitional (Skills/Action): Demonstrate the ability to apply research methods to real-world situations and create a research proposal.

  • The Role of Research in Academia, Theology, and Practical Ministry
  • Types of Research: Basic vs. Applied, Qualitative vs. Quantitative
  • Characteristics of Good Research

Session 2: Research Problem, Questions, and Literature Review

  • Identifying a Research Problem

    • How to Synthesize and Critically Analyze Literature

Session 3: Research Design and Methodology

Final Project (Optional):

Each student will submit a mini research proposal incorporating all what they have learned.
